4. Refusal

I'd been scared of other stalkers.
Careful too.

I always looked in the back seat
Before I got into my car.
Daddy made sure I walked
With my keys in-between each finger.

Stalkers had tormented since school.
Most of them were innocent-obsessive.
Daddy scared them off.

But I knew he wasn't scared
When I read his reply to a note
Daddy left on his car.
A single word.

No.

I sensed something really bad;
More so than when I received the gutted fish.
Reading his defiance in one word.
Felt insanely bold.
Yeah, I knew then this time it was different.

But no one else believed;
And I didn't know what to do
But go along with their way of thinking.
They never thought.
