Candy and Nuts

Candy and Nuts

'Wanting to be someone else,

is a waste of the person you are.'

~Kurt Cobain

Begrudging views to see how you

Think your life should have been;

I must say 'tis the best way

To waste the life you're in

The scorching Sun would never set

To be cool like the Moon,

Nor will time resent itself

For passing by too soon

Frogs don't play with Lincoln Logs

And cats won't learn to fly

Slugs and bugs pile not their hopes

To reach the stellar sky

It seems that we as humanoids

Can seldom be content;

So oft’ our lives are scrutinized

To self-impose lament

Mostly though we covet change

Because we fail to see,

There will always be, 'What was'

'Why them?’, but 'Why not me?'

If 'ifs' and 'buts' were candy and nuts,

Then every day'd be Christmas

Instead of sugar-coated lies

We feed our discontentments
